However Women worked just as hard as men to tame the west, working long hours and sometimes ran the farms and ranches while the men were away driving cattle or at war.

These adult women were skilled performers, demonstrating riding, expert marksmanship, and trick roping that entertained audiences around the world. Women such as Annie Oakley became household names.
